First, the typical mill-drill does already have a sort of "key" in the form of a rack, used for raising and lowering the head. The rack is generally free to rotate with the head, so it seems logical to simply pin the rack to the column.

The RF30 type of machine is a very capable mill, with the addition of a DRO and the column registration mod, it will no doubt surpass your expectations and be a much cheaper option than selling and upgrading. regards.
